Shooting Star is an Alicorn with a Nagareboshi bloodline, her father was one such pony. She herself is not a Nagareboshi, but due to her heritage she feels a nearly unrelenting need to grant wishes. Since she is just a normal Alicorn and not a Nagareboshi, she is unable to grant wishes like they can, and so she has her own method of doing things. Each night she flies through the night sky, using a special spell that allows her to hear more clearly and with it she listens for ponies who are wishing on the stars. When she hears one, she soars down to them with haste, and offers to help them grant their wish. She doesn't do this with magic, but through working with them to help them grant their own wish. If they wish to learn an instrument, she will find a pony who plays it and ask them to teach it to her new friend. If they wish for some help around their farm, she will assist them for the entire day to help them get their chores done. She will help ponies with all manor of wishes, big or small, and those she helps feel much better about their wishes being granted, because instead of it being given to them, they were able to work for it. She is very kind to other ponies as you could probably tell, and is known to always have a smile on her face. She has a wish of her own, to one day become a Nagareboshi like her father. This is a wish that may never come to fruition however, as her wish isn't something she could simply work for.
