OC: Strawberry Roan the Earth Pony (Young)

This pony cannot be bred with, sorry!

I made this pony based on my Grandfather, whom I miss very much. We use to go out to the country a lot together to his garden and pick things, and then at home he made a little strawberry garden, they were his favorite. We also always listened to this one tape in the car, it was a bunch of Wilf Carter songs who was an old country singer. There was one song on it that was always my favorite, called 'The Fate of Old Strawberry Roan' which was about a pony. Into my later years I found that it was actually a trilogy of songs about this pony, the one I first listened to being the third and two others before it called 'Old Strawberry Roan' and 'He Rode Strawberry Roan'. Anyways this is where I got the appearance of this pony, the name being a coloration of pony or horse fur which is dark brown with a redish tint on the head and near the hooves, and white blotches mixed in with the dark brownish red on the torso.

Strawberry Roan was born in the country side close to Ponyville, not long after it was founded. He went to school until he was old enough to help out around the farm, then he was thought to use the old tractor, and farm vegetables. His favorite thing to farm was strawberries, he loved their sweet taste and they shared his name. After his first crop of them turned out splendid he earned his Cutie Mark, but that wasn't his only special talent. He grew up to be a sort of jack of all trades, he was good at fixing the tractor, repairing the barn, and other things like cooking and fishing. He especially loved the yearly rodeo that took place in a town a little ways from Ponyville, his two best events being Tug of War and Bronco Bucking, no one could ever stay on his back for long, and remained undefeated for a very long time. He had very many friends, and loved to help them out whenever they needed it.

When we reached adulthood he married early to a lovely mare and moved into a small house in the middle of Ponyville, but he kept his garden out in the country at his old home that his brother now owned. Strawberry Roan became a fire pony there, brave ponies were in short supply at the time. He was never injured during his time was a fire pony, much to the delight of his wife who had always worried whenever he had to go to a fire. He saved many lives in the roaring fires. Not long after he retired, his children had all moved out, and all but one of them had children, all of them colts. When his youngest finally had a child, a filly named Silver, she took a huge liking to him. She loved to be around him even as a foal, and grew up to be nicknamed his 'shadow' since wherever he went she soon followed. She preferred to stay at his house over her own, they would often travel out to the country to tend to his garden and visit his relatives. He taught her to be the best pony she could be, and to always be kind and helpful, many say that he would be very proud of the pony that Silver grew up to be.
