Description

Would you like to breed an OC or Canon character with Smoggie? You can do so at the Silver Stables: silverromance.deviantart.com/a… (Currently Closed)

Factory Smog has been one of my favorite OCs for a long time, as was shown in one of my old Monthly Challenge thingies, the one where I drew some of my favorite OCs, hehe. I even filled out a collab with her for another challenge thing I did. When I saw that she was up for sale, I couldn't let anyone else have her. I knew I loved her, and continue to love her, I couldn't risk her going to someone who may not love her as much as I do, so I told Sheepie to shut up and take mah points because that chickie was going to be mine~ X3 MadSheepKing has left dA now sadly, but if you happen to be looking around sometime Sheepie, I hope that you enjoy what I'm doing with her. ^.^ I love her to pieces.

I'm not entirely sure on all of the details of how she is finally able to leave her job, if LR-Studios could shed of light on this, since if I recall Lightning Rocker had something to do with it, I would love to know so I can have everything as accurate as a I can~

Obtained From: :iconmadsheepking: MadSheepKing

Species: Earth Pony
Gender: Female
Parents: Bronze Gear the ??? and Tinker Toy the ??? (Adoptive Parents)
Nicknames: Smog, Smoggie
Residence: A small apartment in Manehatten

Personality: Factory Smog is rather quiet and hard to get to know, she would rather do things by herself most times and does not like to accept anypony's help with anything. She is also rather submissive, she generally does as she's told the majority of the time, and even if that is something she'd rather not do she'll stubbornly do it without question. That being said though, she enjoys doing as she's told when it is a legitimate help to another pony and not just as some job. She may not stand up well for herself, but she will stand up for any of her few friends in any way she can no matter what. She is somewhat apathetic, she doesn't show excitement very much, even if she does feel content at the time.
Main Interests: Tinkering, Machinery, Gardening, Working Out
Theme Song: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Nuts & Bolts [Remix by teckworks]

Factory Smog started life out rather rough. Her parents were train workers, her father a mechanical engineer and her mother was one of the waitresses on the train. For the first year of her life she was usually with a babysitter, but that changed when a terrible accident happened. An important part of the trains break system let go as the train chugged on, Smoggie's father did his best to try to fix it as the train was going, but sadly it crashed, taking the life of both her parents.

Smog was taken to live at an orphanage after ordeal, though she was young and did not stay there long, she remembered the damp smell and cool nights there. Lucky enough for her a pair of perspective parents happened upon an article about the accident, and read how poor little Smoggie was left orphaned. These parents instantly felt a connection to her, as though they were meant to take her in as they too worked with machinery as her father had. They already had a child, a son, but were unable to have anymore foals due to complications, Wally Workbench was born perfectly healthy but it was found there were cancerous cells within Tinker's womb, it needed to be taken out before they were able to grow and spread. They had dreamed of having two children, one boy and one girl, and it seemed that destiny was calling them, they needed to adopt Factory Smog. As soon as they could Bronze Gear and Tinker Toy were starting the process of adopting the foal.

It was a hard task to be able to adopt her, their income wasn't very much, but eventually after Bronze Gear took on a second job to help pay for everything, they were finally in the minimal range for adopting a foal. They were approved, and that same day they took her home with them.

She grew up learning about machinery at a young age, her adoptive father loved to invent things to help make ponies lives easier, when he wasn't doing that he was working at one of his two jobs, both of them involved him looking after and fixing machinery in factories in Manehatten. Either way he loved doing what he did. Her adoptive mother liked to make wind up toys, and prided herself in creating detailed intricate toys that looked great without having small parts that a little foal could choke on. She sold them out of their small house, though business was generally slow. Though they were in Manehatten where there wasn't much grass to speak of, there was a tiny square of dirt behind their house where Smoggie, her mother and brother loved to plan flowers. They made Smoggie so happy, especially the green ones since they matched her mane. Though she loved the flowers, instead of wanting to become a gardener, she dreamed of becoming some kind of engineer like her adoptive parents, she paid close attention to all they did in hopes of one day doing as they did, but this dream may have been one she may one day wish didn't come true.

Times became tough before Smoggie found herself a job. Her father lost one of his jobs and her mother was selling less and less toys, ponies were becoming less focused on nice and well made and more on cheap, mass produced rubbish toys. To save her parents from having to spend more on her, Smoggie found what she thought was her dream job and moved out right away. That job was operating and maintaining machinery at a factory, she even gained her cutie mark there. It wasn't a very pretty one, but she loved it none the less. The boss seemed nice at first, but his true colors began to shine as time went on. Her hours became longer and longer, she was told to stay late countless times and she began to lose sleep. She developed bags under her eyes and started to lose her once happy disposition. She also noticed that she was developing a cough from all the smoke in and around the factory. There was no plant life around the factory, any that attempted to grow was killed by all of the pollution. She finally lost the rest of her cheerful self one day when her mane got caught in the machinery, resulting in a rather deep gash in her leg that developed into a scar. Enough was enough at that moment, and she confronted her boss. She asked for less hours and protective equipment to use while running the machinery, and asked to help him find ways of lessening the pollution of the factory to help the fauna of the area. Her boss laughed in her face, he didn't care about protective equipment, he expected his staff to be careful of their own lives when working at his factory, if she hurt herself that was her fault. He then told her if that she wanted less hours he could give her none, and could be sure that she'd never be hired anywhere else. And finally, he stated that the pollution would only grow because it was much more efficient that way, he cared not for the grass or flowers. His tone frightened Smog, she had no idea a pony could be so entirely cruel, and instead of fighting it farther she conceded, apologized, and left.

When she arrived home she cut her once beautiful long mane and styled it up into a mohawk, so that it would no longer be able to get caught in the machinery. She stared into the mirror for hours, wondering what to do. She ended up deciding to stay in the factory, jobs were scarce, and her parents needed her to help with money. She knew in her heart if she were to try to quit bad things would happen, and so she stayed, surprisingly for many years.

Their treatment of her only got worse, she was rarely ever home and when she was finally able to go, she ended up staying at the factory and sleeping in an old smelly cot in the back because she was too tired to trot home. She became numb to it all, taking all the abuse she had to take to keep her job, it was the least she could do for her parents after they took her in and took care of her all of those many years. "Maybe this is jus' how it's suppose to be, adulthood and all that..." she told herself, trying to cling to a shred of hope that it wasn't just her and her co-workers that suffered like this.

Solice came to her in the form of a small group of friends led by a pegasus. She happened upon them by chance one day on her way to work. They all seemed so happy in each others company, she envied them. They must of noticed her looking because a black Pegasus motioned for her to come over. She blushed, but trotted over anyway. They asked if she wanted to join them, but she said no, she had to go to work. They asked if she could join them some other time then, she just replied with 'Maybe.' and went on her way back to work. As days went by they hung around the same spot as Smog went by, and each day she became a little more open to them, she began to talk to them, tell them about her life and she learned of theirs. She began to feel a feeling that she hadn't felt in a long time. One day she spent too long talking to them however, and when she arrived late for work, her boss was not happy.

The last straw had finally been broken, her boss struck her in the face, sending her toppling down. She whimpered and he commanded her to her feet, and proclaimed that she would no longer be late because she would never ever leave. She was to be forced to stay in the factory as long as he wanted, on her few breaks she would be permitted to sleep in her chair or on the floor. She actually feared for her life as he said this, and though she knew it was ridiculous and unreasonable, she did as he said.

Weeks went by and Smoggie's new friends saw neither head nor hide of her. They thought she may have just decided to some visiting them, but the black pegasus thought differently. He was a schemey fellow, and ended up persuading his friends to go where they believed Smoggie worked after watching her trot away many times. Lo and behold they found the factory, or at least they thought they did. The black pegasus snuck his way in after jimmying the lock, and his friends followed, they stayed low to the ground to not be seen, and looked around the factory. The place smelled and seemed really unkempt, all of the workers looked tired with bags under their eyes with sullen looks on their faces, as Smog did. Then they finally found her, by her station working the machine, a chain around her leg that attached to it. They immediately hopped up and were bashing on the chain to let her free, so fast Smoggie had no idea what was going on.

"Wha- What're you guys doin' here?" she shrieked. "You shouldn't be here, I need to work or-"

The black pegasus looked at the bruise on her face. "Good thing we got here when we did." he said. "You don't deserve this, don't you see? We may not have known you for long but at least I can see that under that sad look is a happy go lucky mare, we're getting you out of here." he said.

Just then, the boss came stomping down the stairs from his office. "What is that racket?! Who are you, get out of my factory!" he growled.

As one final kick broke the lock on the chain, the black Pegasus flew up to the boss and with a swift and hard kick to the face, he stated, "Consider this Factory Smog's resignation you disgusting jerk." The boss stallion fell over, unconscious. As they left the factory, heads held high, they offered to bring along anyone of the other staff who wanted to. Most just rolled their eyes, but one took them up on their offer, a large stallion who wanted to leave and never look back.

After leaving Factory Smog feared for her family, she wouldn't be able to help them pay for their necessities anymore. But her new friends told her that she'd be able to find a new job, they'd help her find her a new, better one. So far she hasn't been able to find one, but she holds hope that she may one day find her true calling. She resents her cutie mark now, it only reminds her of the pain she's been through and continues to go through knowing she isn't any help to the people who raised her. She once again gardens when she can, this has helped her lighten up a little bit, and she hopes she may be able to help beautify her city. It is hard with all of the pollution though, green spaces are few and far between.

Her friends weren't the only one who noticed Smog no longer walking the same street each day. A green tinted, long tailed Pegasus noticed as well, he watched her walk by every day from a factory he worked at, and though he never spoke to her, he somehow felt connected in some way... Now that she no longer walks by, he wonders deeply about where she may have went.

Quote(s): "What're you lookin' at? You ain't never seen a mare before or somethin'?"
"I ain't in the mood. Please trot off."
"*mumbles under breath*"
"Sure boss... 'atever you say boss...
"Oh, ah just been gardenin', ya' know letting off some steam and such... Thanks for askin' though...

Have a relative of Factory Smog you want added to her ref or think your pony might be good friends with her and want them added? Feel free to comment their reference here! All relatives are accepted (if you don't want them to be canon to him I'll put Non-Canon next to their name), and friendships may be accepted if I believe they could realistically be friends. =3 Smoggie is rather anti-social though so be aware of that!

I'm glad she has a great home. I couldn't imagine a better owner for her.
